The Moleskine Connected Store

The Moleskine Connected Store

''It all started many years ago, with a pocket-sized black object, the product of a great tradition.''

“The Moleskine notebook is the successor to the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two centuries. As trusted and handy travel companion, the notebook held invaluable sketches, notes, stories, and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books.”

Concept

We created a prototype for a connected store for the paper shop called Moleskine. Our goal was to propose an experimental space in a pop-up store, to promote the digital activity of the brand. We decided to create a route around the notebook’s universe.

Authentic textures

To express the identity of the brand, we chose to highlight the texture of the paper and its origins. The mediums shown below were our main inspirations. We wanted to inspire, in an innovative way, the feeling of a book in users hands.

Customer experience

During his/her path, the customer will go through different steps: The initial shopping part of the shop proposes a collection of notebooks, pencils & bags at a first glance. The experimental part offers the customer the possibility to touch the different textures used in the notebook (with the different thicknesses and sizes of paper), and to try the products of the collection. The customer is also invited to take part in a drawing contest through the tools at his/her disposal. The best sketches are selected and displayed in an interactive notebook at the entrance of an immersive room made of paper. The one chosen by the customer is animated & projected on the walls of the room, to make the notebook come alive. The experience is all about touching the notebook, feeling the paper, and living the drawing.

3D model

The structure of the shop is based on a giant Moleskine notebook we can see in the corner. This notebook opens the path on the different materials used for its creation, and faces the immersive room which is made of paper. In this way, the content of the notebook becomes tangible, the story initially drawn in the notebook becomes real in our world.

Demonstration

We created a physical model with the authentic textures of the notebook. It allowed us to edit this video. We chose to animate a drawing from a french artist called Hamet, to demonstrate the function of the immersive room.

Context

This project was a team project, with Olivia Ballet, Florian Bht, Romane Dupré, Marine Laurent & Sullyvan Lecomte. My role was to imagine an intuitive path for the user, virtually redraw the drawing of Hamet and animate it, to create a real immersive room, and to film and edit the demonstration video.
